Peter T. Imbert, Mayor

Mayor Imbert attended Amityville Public Schools and St. Martin of Tours prior to graduating from St. John the Baptist High School in 1977. He wrestled varsity all four years at St. John. He was co-captain his senior year during which he was voted the most valuable player of the league tournament having been undefeated all year in league matches. He continued his education at the University of Richmond where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics in 1981. He was elected Senior Senator of Student Government at Richmond and also continued to wrestle varsity.
Peter's professional career began at American International Group in 1981. He was promoted to Assistant Vice President of a subsidiary insurance company at age 26. In 1987, he joined Reliance National Insurance Company as the youngest Vice President in the company. He left in 1991 to join his father at American Professional Agency, Inc. located in the Village of Amityville.
Peter began public service in 1997 after being elected Mayor of the Incorporated Village of Amityville. He was re-elected in 2001 with 80% of the votes and is currently completing his fourth term.
Mayor Imbert was named Man of the Year in 2004 by the Amityville Police Benevolent Association and was also recognized that year by Post 1218 of the American Legion for outstanding community service. Peter was also the first Honoree of The Long Island Home's annual golf classic. He has received recognition from the Knights of Columbus, the Amityville Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Suffolk County First Precinct's Brotherhood as well as other prominent organizations.
Most recently, Mayor Imbert received the Distinguished Alumni Award from St. Martin of Tours School where he graduated in 1973.
Mayor Imbert was elected to the Suffolk County Village Officials Association "SCVOA" as Second Vice President in 2009 and is currently serving in that capacity.
Peter has lived in Amityville his entire life. He and his wife Diane have three children, Julia, Mark and Diana.
