SECRETARY TO THE MAYOR
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. Attendance at two (2) evening Board of Trustees meetings per month is required.
Supervision: Instruction from the Mayor and/or Clerk/Treasurer as to their needs and those things under their jurisdiction.
Performs confidential duties supporting the Mayor, Board of Trustees and Village Clerk/Treasurer in the day-to-day operation of the Village’s administrative office. Serves as a contact person for the public and other Village/Town Boards and Officials.
Prepares letters, correspondence and reports, receives and sorts mail, answers phone, orders supplies and schedules appointments, keeps the Mayor’s calendar and calendar of community events.
Accepts applications for Board meeting agendas, prepares agenda, and assembles all pertinent information for meeting’s, prepares all legal notices for newspaper, website and public postings. Records and transcribes minutes of Board of Trustees meetings, distributes and enters in permanent record book.
Prepares write-up of local laws once drafted, advertises public meeting for same, sends to proper agencies after adoption, updates Village Code book as necessary and distributes updates/supplements to users. Operates and maintains the Village of Amityville’s Facebook page as directed.
Other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned.

FEMALE DETENTION ATTENDANTS
The Amityville Police Department is looking for female Detention Attendants who work on a call-in as needed basis, days, nights and weekends, to guard females detained at the Amityville police station.
Detention Attendants will:
• Search female prisoners;
• Observe inmates in cells to assure their well-being and adherence to regulations and rules;
• Make required inspections of prisoners;
• Maintain detention log with periodic entries
All uniforms and equipment are provided by the Police Department. We offer a minimum 4-hour tour when you are called in. The rate of pay is $15.30 per hour, with a weekend and night differential pay of $20.40 per hour and a bonus based on call-in response.
Applicants must successfully pass a background investigation, as well as medical and psychological testing prior to employment. Detention Attendants must be 18 years of age or older. No experience is necessary and all training is provided. A valid New York State driver’s license is required.

Substitute Crossing Guard
The Village of Amityville is seeking interested candidates for substitute crossing guard positions. Substitute crossing guards would work when the regularly scheduled crossing guards are not able to work. We are looking for reliable, trustworthy individuals who enjoy the outdoors and interaction with the public. Interested candidates must pass a thorough background check and enjoy providing a safe environment for our children when crossing some of our major intersections and roadways. Qualified candidates who are hired receive $13.26 per hour, uniforms, and uniform maintenance. Medical coverage is not included.
