Mayor’s Message – January 15, 2026Road Work Update
I reached out to the New York State Department of Transportation to express serious concerns about the condition of Broadway and the urgent need for pothole repairs. I’m thankful for their quick response. Earlier today they had a road repair crew working to fill potholes on Merrick Road and will continue tonight, January 15, on Broadway from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Tonight’s crew will address potholes in the roadway and, where accessible, will also work on issues in the parking lanes.
I also want to provide a brief update on the recent water main breaks on Merrick Road. In discussions with the Suffolk County Water Authority, we’ve learned that water main breaks most commonly occur between November and March. The area around the culvert is now more susceptible due to the ongoing construction work. Unfortunately, there are no preventative measures that can fully eliminate the risk of future breaks at this time.
In the coming months, I will be working with the Suffolk County Water Authority to discuss replacing the water main along Merrick Road before the culvert project is completed. I will keep the community informed as we move forward.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this important infrastructure project.
