A Holiday Message from Mayor Siry

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching, and I want to wish all of our Village residents and friends a happy, healthy and safe holiday. It’s great to see families gathering once again and so many people coming back home to Amityville for this celebration of family and friends.

After the holiday, on Saturday, Nov. 27th, the annual Peter 5-K race will take place in memory of Peter J. O’Neill, Jr., who we lost at a young age in the 9/11 attacks at the World Trade Center. This memorial race raises funds for a different charity each year and has done so much good over the past 20 years. Special thanks to the O’Neill and Kretz families and all the participants for keeping this tradition going. Please be advised that the race begins at 1 p.m. and several streets south of Merrick Road (Starting and ending at Carman Place) and will be closed for runners and walkers on the race route. See link for information or to register.

Looking ahead to the Christmas Holidays, the annual Village Tree Lighting will take place on Saturday, Dec. 4th at 5 p.m. on the Village Triangle (Broadway and Park Ave.). Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to greet the children and candy canes will be given out, courtesy of Annette Drago and our friends at Wrapping It Up. Several nearby establishments will be open for shopping, food and refreshments, so please remember to support our local businesses.

***New this year — Please bring a non-perishable food item to the Tree Lighting ceremony and deposit it in the receptacles provided by the Rotary Club of Amityville, which is conducting a food drive.

Let’s all reach out to help others during this season of giving! The Marine Corps Toys for Tots collection is now taking place at Village Hall (lobby of 21 Ireland Pl.) so please drop off an unwrapped toy before Dec. 12th to make the holiday brighter for a child.

We hope to see you all soon and wish you the happiest of holidays!

Please stay safe!

Respectfully,

Mayor Dennis Siry
