Town of Babylon Volunteer Firemen’s Parade

The Amityville Fire Department, in conjunction with the Town of Babylon Volunteer Firemen’s Association, is holding a parade on Saturday, September 19th, at 4:30pm.

The parade will proceed north on South Bayview Avenue, cross Merrick Road, and continue north on Bayview Avenue, to Avon Place, then west on Avon to Broadway (Route 110), north to Ireland Place, west on Ireland Place to Burch Avenue, north on Burch Avenue to West Oak Street, and east on West Oak Street to the reviewing stand in front of the fire house.

In the event of rain the parade will be held on Sunday, September 20th at 1:00pm.

Amityville Sports Hall of Fame Induction @ Amityville Memorial High School

This year’s inductees include:  Billy Maisel, Curtis Hollomon, Dale Pescitelli, George Butt, Fred Thompson, Edmund Jones, Tristan Smith, Jessica Bernius, Ernie Wyatt, the 1946 and 1947 Long Island Champion Field Hockey Team, the 2002 and 2003 NYS Champion Relay Team.    Tickets are $25 in advance and can be purchased through the Hall of Fame Committee: Jerry Pollock, Jessica Bernius,   Bruce Pescitelli, Claude Byer, or Reynolds Hawkins.

Homecoming Parade starts at the LIRR parking lot on Sterling Place, proceeds South on Route 110/Broadway, onto Avon Place, South on Bayview Avenue and culminates at the Amityville Memorial High School Field.

Free Memory Screening Program @ Massapequa Bar Harbour Library

Senator Michael Venditto & AFA (Alzheimer’s Foundation of America) are hosting a Free Memory Screening Program.

A memory screening is a first come, first served simple and safe evaluation to check memory and other thinking skills. It can indicate whether a follow up with a health care professional is needed.

The face-to-face screening takes place in a private setting. Only the individual being tested an the screener are present and takes approximately 10 minutes.

A screening consists of a series of questions and/or tasks designed to test memory, language skills, thinking ability, and other intellectual functions.

Results of the memory screenings are confidential. the participant will receive the screening results to bring to a health care professional for follow-up if necessary.
