[ARCHIVED] Village of Amityville Names Crocitto and Meyer as Distinguished Residents for Civic Award

The Village of Amityville is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Distinguished Resident Award, which recognizes accomplished individuals for their outstanding community service. Village residents Anne Crocitto and Richard Meyer will be honored at the annual Mayor’s Social on Sunday, March 3rd, 3 to 7 p.m. at Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club, 31 Unqua Pl., Amityville.

Anne Crocitto has resided in the Village for more than 50 years, and in that time has raised a family of six, is the loving grandmother of 18 and great grandmother of 12. She participates in numerous volunteer opportunities without seeking recognition, predominantly at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, where she is a long-time Columbiette at the church parish, and leader of the Altar Society and Rosary Society. She can be found working at the St. Martin’s Thrift Shop, organizing the pantry at St. Martin’s parish Outreach for those less fortunate, decorating the Church, or visiting the sick or homebound to share her faith and bring them Holy Communion. She is an active, positive person who never says “no” to helping others. She is also a long-time election volunteer.

Richard Meyer, a 16-year Village resident, is a Beekeeper, Master Plumber for the City of New York and a community volunteer.  Richard’s apiary, R & J Apiary, is a source of locally produced honey, one that benefits Village residents and the local ecology. He assists and educates his neighbors about beekeeping and the importance of bees, shares his specialized knowledge with local teachers and the Village, and volunteers as a beekeeper at Sophia Farm for the Dominican Sisters of Amityville which benefits local food banks. He speaks to local children’s groups about the art and methods of beekeeping, gives tours of his hives and donates honey to many. He is known by his neighbors as a respectful, kind and loyal member of the community.

All are welcome to attend the March 3rd event. Tickets are $25.00 per person. Please contact Kevin Smith for reservations at 516-351-1270 or email AFD1131@verizon.net.
